Hedgehogs alive and well at Badwell Ash Holiday Lodges

Earlier this morning we saw a muntjac deer in the grounds of our site here at Badwell Ash Holiday Lodges. We couldn’t understand how it could have got in, however we then learned that if a deer when up on its hind legs can get its front hooves on top of a gate or fence, then it can jump over. So that little mystery has been explained. We also came across a hedgehog wandering the grassy areas late at night. Not perhaps something to get excited about if you live in the country, but they have disappeared more or less entirely from urban and suburban areas, and so for us it was a major event! Finally when working on the reeds around our lakes, we came across a reed warbler’s nest, carefully and intricately intertwined around three reed stems, chicks now fledged and nest abandoned until next year. Another of nature’s wonders.
